Maintaining our legacy PHP system has become more cumbersome with time, and we’ve decided it’s time for a complete backend overhaul. We're searching for a backend expert who can lead the migration of our existing app to a modern, scalable Node.js architecture.
The current application handles core business functions — user authentication, dashboards, internal tools, and data reporting. Much of the logic is deeply embedded in procedural PHP, making new feature development slow and error-prone.
We want to rebuild everything from the ground up using Node.js, Express.js, and a combination of PostgreSQL and MongoDB for data handling. You'll need to assess our existing architecture and advise on what to preserve, rewrite, or drop entirely.
While we’re expecting a fresh architecture, business logic from the old system must be retained. Data integrity, user roles, and permission models should work the same — only more efficiently and securely in the new stack.
You’ll also be responsible for helping us plan a phased rollout. We’d like to avoid downtime or disrupting current users, so any experience with parallel systems, blue-green deployments, or microservice migration is a huge plus.
We’ve documented our old APIs (sort of), but much of your work will involve reading code and figuring things out. If reverse engineering doesn’t scare you — and you're comfortable cleaning up spaghetti logic — this is a good match.
